Rahm Takes the Green Jacket: A Recap of the 2023 Masters Tournament
The 2023 Masters Tournament was one for the books. Despite major issues with the weather on Friday and Saturday, this year’s prestigious tournament at Augusta National Golf Club was unforgettable. And let me tell you, it was a wild ride.
Jon Rahm, making his seventh appearance at the year’s first major championship, put together a strong, steady and complete performance Sunday to rally from four strokes down and win the 2023 Masters, capturing his first green jacket. Now a two-time major champion after previously taking the 2021 U.S. Open, Rahm is the fourth Spanish golfer to win the Masters, joining Sergio Garcia (2017), José María Olazábal (1994, 1999) and the legendary Seve Ballesteros (1980, 1983). Talk about a Spanish Armada.
But let’s not forget about Phil Mickelson. The man experienced a youthful resurgence Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club, carding a Sunday 65 to finish the day near the top of the leaderboard. Mickelson recorded eight birdies in his remarkable round, including five over his final seven holes. Talk about a comeback. Lefty still has it.
The Masters marks the fourth win for the 28-year-old Rahm on the PGA Tour already this year with prior 2023 victories at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express and the Genesis Invitational. He’s on fire!
Overall, it was an exciting tournament with many memorable moments. Congratulations to Jon Rahm on his victory! And to all you golf fans out there: keep your eyes peeled for what’s to come in this exciting season. Who knows what surprises are in store?
